Gillian Toogood F.I.S.T.D
Gillian was a Cecchetti Scholar and went on to train with Nesta Brooking and work with Elizabeth Twistington Higgins. She began her professional career by joining the Malmo State Ballet, subsequently spending six years with the Royal Swedish Ballet, where she worked with, amongst others, Erik Bruhn and Sir Kenneth Macmillan. During this time Gillian toured extensively including performing at the Bolshoi and dancing many major classical roles, most notably Clara in Nutcracker and in ballets by Ashton, Balanchine, Bournonville and Cranko.
Gillian returned home to join London City Ballet as a soloist.
After obtaining her Teaching qualifications and since her professional retirement she has been a regular member of the faculty for the Cecchetti Summer School for Young Dancers, a guest teacher for the Cecchetti Associates and choreographed and taught the Cecchetti Scholars. In September 2010 she became chairman of the Cecchetti Scholars Sub Committee.
She has produced and choreographed for the Chelmsford Ballet Company since 1992 and in 1999 become their Artistic Director. After 11 years and many successful productions Gillian retired from the post. She was invited to become a honorary member of the company and still returns regularly to teach the company class.
After moving to Stoke Mandeville, Gillian joined the faculty of the Susan Diane School of Dance, where she continues to teach today.
Gillian is also teaching in Aylesbury and at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts.
