SUSAN DIANE FRIDAY
Since the age of three I always been involved in dance, performing in Festivals, Dance shows, Pantomimes and Amateur dramatics. I progressed through the examination grades in Modern, Tap, Ballet, Natural Movement and National dance. My passion for dance continued as a student teacher with The Lewis School of Dance in Aylesbury.
Throughout 1974 I qualified as an Associate in Modern, Tap and Ballet with the IDTA continuing to gain further qualifications with ISTD in all genres.
I became a teacher at Downley Lodge school of Speech and Drama in September1974.
In April 1975 the Susan Diane School of Dance was opened with two classes and the first exam session took place on 3rd October 1975.
I continued to gain dance experience by attending Pineapple Studios and working with such people as Nigel Lythgoe, Dougie Squires Derek Hartley and performing in two dance troupes called ‘Spice of Life’ and ‘ The Cameo Dancers’
In 1976 I moved to Reading with my husband Paul, but continued to travel to Aylesbury to teach and enter pupils for exams, festivals and pantomime.
The following nine years, I was busy raising a family, developing the dance school and became a founder member of The Bucks Regional Dance Council with Lady Scott.
In May 1993 I returned back to my roots in Aylesbury and continued to expand the school further by introducing an excellent team of highly qualified teachers. This allowed me to direct and co-ordinate children in Pantomime, provide a dancewear service, sit on the Aylesbury Vale Arts Council representing dance and produce dance shows that have raised thousands of pounds for local charities.
Former pupils are now bringing their children to the school, which is a great compliment and I am delighted that previous students are also dancing in theatres in the UK or abroad.
I feel it a great privilege to teach children to dance and also provide the many skills that can be learnt from attending our caring and professional dance school. As I celebrate Forty years as Principal of SDSD I look forward to seeing the school continue to progress with my talented team of teachers.
